learner diary

Learner diary

Week 1
In the first week, I was given a brief of the assignment which I had to rewrite and the client for the brief I was given is the marketing team at East Norfolk Sixth Form College.

Week 2
I started to design the website with the primary audience which is potential students and the secondary audience which is parents, the demographic in mind is 16-19 and the logo won’t change during the design process of the website.

Week 3
During the process, I looked at some websites and analysed them to get an idea of the colour schemes and the layout of the site. I also looked at some layout designs to get an idea of what the website will look like. The terms covered are CSS, HTML, fonts and font families, safe fonts and web fonts and using a graphic instead. The hex code is a specific colour and is used in media products to tell an audience whether a product is for them.

Design Feedback

Layout and colour scheme: the feedback that I received on this was that the layout was clear and easy to use and the colour choice was good although the layout was a bit distracting, I will change the layout in areas so it is no longer distracting.

Use of fonts and logo: the feedback that i received for the use of fonts and logos was that there was a clear placement of the logo and the font is good and the size works, There will no changes being made to the fonts and logo.

Use of images and videos (media rich content): the feedback I received for the use of media and videos was that there is a good use of images and they are clearly placed, there was no video on the website, I will change it so the images scroll and will add a video onto the website.

Suitability for the target audience and branding: the feedback that I received for the suitability for the target audience and the brand was that the website is suitable for the target audience and a large social media emphasis to encourage young people to engage.

Proposal: Rebranding the East Norfolk website

The marketing team at East Norfolk Sixth Form College is asking me to come up with ideas that will help to further promote the college to potential students. They would like to focus on how they can improve the external website so that it better appeals to the correct audience (young males and females between the ages of 15-17). The marketing team would like me to come up with annotated analyses of the current site and also annotated mock ups of new designs that I have created which I feel would better suit those looking to go to a college in the Norfolk/Suffolk border region.

The designs should look professional and be based on established layouts and expectations (conventions). The marketing team would like to know what layout I would use, what fonts and what colours (including hex codes).

I should consider the EN brand at all times and make sure that I show the college in a positive light and give serious thought to my audience and who will access it.

Once I have completed some draft designs, I will seek some feedback from my tutor and peers to ensure I am meeting the requirements of the brief and then I will look at making improvements based on that feedback and my own personal responses to the design.
